All the President's Web Programmers...

Compared to all the presidents that have come before him, there is one thing that Obama has inarguably done best - technology. In all fairness, Grover Cleveland probably never had a shot at that title, given that safety razors and crayons were the "next big things" of his era. But that's just too bad for all those other presidents.

That's because the Obama administration is about to launch a new feature of their website that will put his technologically challenged predecessors to shame. Well.... maybe. The feature, called "We the People," is a petitioning system where anyone can create a petition about a certain issue on the White House website. If the petition receives more than 5,000 signatures, "it will be reviewed by the Administration and an official response will be issued. And we’ll make sure that the petition is sent to the appropriate policy makers in the Administration."

Now, that's all vague enough to make me a little skeptical that this is just a way to get more people's email addresses on Obama's mailing list. But this tool could also be an intriguing new way to get more obscure issues onto the president's docket. As usual, it looks like only time will tell.
